Typically created using hydrocarbon solvents or butane, shatter is often considered more potent or pure than other cannabis extracts. However, this is not always true. Its potency depends on the source plant’s chemical composition, extraction techniques, and equipment. Shatter can be consumed using a dab rig, and its extracts may test 80% to 90% THC.
Shatter is known for its glass-like consistency and can easily crack or shatter. Its appearance is translucent gold or amber because the extract’s molecules are less agitated during production. When compared to wax, it can be more difficult to dose the dab with shatter as it easily cracks into pieces of unpredictable sizes.
It is hazardous to make shatter at home because of the highly flammable solvents used in the extraction process. Consumers are advised not to make it themselves but purchase it from a licensed dispensary.
