Maryland voters approve recreational marijuana for legalization starting July 1, 2023

MARYLAND – Voters approved legalizing marijuana in Tuesday nights election making recreational marijuana legal starting July 1, 2023.

According to The Washington Post, the new law will allow adults ages 21 and up to possess, grow, and smoke marijuana within certain limitations. It allows for possession of up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana and to grow up to two plants in citizen’s home out of the public view.

Additionally, marijuana will be decriminalized for possession of up to 1.5 ounces starting January.

Lawmakers are still working on a plan for retail sales in Maryland. That discussion is expected to begin in January at the General Assembly.
