NETHERLANDS – While there is a tolerance policy for cannabis users in the country, cannabis sales remain illegal; however, that might change this year.
Forbes shares the Netherlands plans to launch the preliminary phase of their pilot program, Wietexperiment (Weed Experiment in English), sometime between October and December 2023.
Currently, coffee shops in the country obtain licenses to sell cannabis products, but their only option is to obtain their products from the illegal cannabis market. This experimental program hopes to eliminate this ‘gray area’ and any criminal activity associated with it for these businesses.
In the pilot program, three cannabis growers were selected to provide the product legally to coffee shops in Tilburg and Breda.
