Hawaii State Leaders Crafting Plan to Push Marijuana Legalization

HAWAII – A growing group of state leaders, dispensaries, and patients are drafting plans to encourage legislation to legalize marijuana.

According to KITV, this group of lawmakers are pushing for legalization of recreational marijuana in light of the increase of revenue and diverse economy it will bring to the state.

Recently the Hawaii Cannabis Industry Association reported that an estimated $50 million was brought into the state by medical marijuana. Plus, it also brought in over $2 million in state general excise taxes.

Another reason behind the push is those state leaders want to get ahead in the industry if the federal ban is lifted on marijuana recreational use. These leaders say that there will be competition among states once the federal ban is lifted. They want Hawaii to not be forced to import and be able to utilize local farmers.
