how to make cannahoney

Cannabis Honey Recipe

No ratings yet

Equipment

  • Non-stick baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Double boiler
  • Fine strainer or cheesecloth
  • Amber glass jar with a lid

Ingredients

  • Dried cannabis flower Note: Do not grind the cannabis too fine. Because cannabis-infused honey needs to be strained, you don’t want small pieces that can slip through the sieve and enter the final product. Instead, you can break buds into smaller pieces with your fingers. But be mindful of the size of the mesh of your strainer to ensure the pieces aren’t too small. If you are uncomfortable using a sieve, it might be better to use cheesecloth instead.
  • 2 cups honey Note: You can make different cannahoney batches by using various types of local honey in your recipes. It’s generally considered that local honey helps best with allergies associated with your region.

Instructions

  • First, you’ll need to decarboxylate the cannabis. This process will help activate your cannabis, so it’s ready for infusion.
  • Preheat the oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Be careful. You might think that says 420 degrees. It is only 240 degrees. Don’t jump the gun. It’s important not to overheat your cannabis or cook it for too long. Burning cannabis can negatively affect its potency and ruin the taste.
  • Cover the tray with parchment paper and evenly place dried cannabis buds on top. Make sure to place the tray on the middle rack of the oven. After placing the tray in the oven, set a timer for around 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Every 10 minutes or so, gently mix the buds to ensure the surface areas are being exposed to heat as evenly as possible. You might want to set the timer for 10 minutes to ensure you stir the cannabis or shake the tray intermittently.
  • Now that you’ve decarbed the cannabis, it’s ready for the honey infusion.
  • Combine the honey and decarbed cannabis in your double boiler.
  • Simmer the mixture on low heat for at least 40 minutes. The longer you let it simmer, the stronger it will be. Some recipes use slow-cookers that call for an eight-hour cook if you don't have a double boiler.
  • Once the cannahoney is infused, switch off the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.
  • To strain the honey mixture, place cheesecloth or strainer over the top of your storage jar. Pour the honey through, allowing the mixture to drain completely. To ensure cannabis bits don’t sneak into your final product, you may have to strain the cannahoney a couple of times, but don’t squeeze it, as that might force bits of cannabis into your final product.
  • Now it’s ready to enjoy! Cannahoney can be stored for up to two months. Be sure to place the jar in a cool dark place as too much light can affect the quality and potency of the honey.
